Here's a list of my greivances:
- The focus is molasses slow; when it does finally lock on, a good half of the time it's locked on to the wrong spot.
- Who thought it was a good idea to limit the shutter speed to 1/4 second?
- Exposure is almost 2 stops under from a normal looking image on the screen.
- Any time you need to access something in a menu, it usually 4-5 button presses.
- Did I mention that the focus is slow? An EOS-1 from 1996 focuses an order of magnitude faster.
- Activating Macro focus takes 3 buton pushes, and focusing even slower than regular focusing.
- Forget about focusing in low light.
- Lens is either too short or too long, never just right, but that's just my taste for focal lengths.
- Not very sharp wide open, needs to be at least at 2.8 or 4 to be sharp.
Thanks for your comment saved me from wasting my money
ReplyDelete@David, I sure hope you don't' take one persons opinion about a camera. Have you looked at what Zack Arias has to say? http://zackarias.com/?s=Fuji+x100 Just another persons opinion. I too own the camera. Does it have some quirks as mentioned in this review. YES! Am I able to work around them? Yup. Love the camera and the image quality is crazy good.
ReplyDelete@John, why is my opinion any less valid than Zack's? The camera doesn't have "quirks" it has design flaws that make it difficult to use. Impossible? Of course not. Aggravating? Definitely. If image quality was the only criteria, I'd use my Hasselblad H3D-39 for everything, but then that's not a good solution either.
ReplyDeleteI change to and from macro focus with two button clicks... not sure why you have to push three.
ReplyDeleteYes, the camera is frustrating at times but I love walking around with this camera.
@ Art, I really do think it's three. Press once on the main dial by the flower to enter the menu, press a second time (or turn the dial) to activate macro, and finally press OK or the shutter button to accept the new setting.
ReplyDeleteBut I do know what you're saying about walking with the camera, I love the attention it garners, and the retro design, and the tip of the hat to the Leica. However I find myself leaving the camera at home more often than not because it frustrates me too much. Frankly I get more joy from my Panasonic L10, not to mention the GF1.
Click focus mode switch to M, press AFL button to focus. Two button presses to get into macro mode.
ReplyDeleteHi Bill, Thanks, that does work much better, and solves that issue for me. In truth, I'm not used to having the AF anywhere else other than under the shutter button (a habit of mine ever since the EOS-1) but I could get used to this way after a while.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inclusion! Yeah I’m sure I have a few places to update that information out there still.
