Message In a Bottle - photographer Mitch Tobias

I decided it was time for a serious portfolio review, so I went to an APA event cosponsored by World Photography Organization and Sony. I drove instead of flying to San Francisco because I have to photograph a clarinet player on Saturday and need my kit for that.

Today I went to the gala opening held at RJ Muna's Left Space Studios. I instantly fell in love with Studio Blue there, its exactly what I want my studio to look like. I took a few pics, but sadly left the card reader for my Panasonic GF1 at home, so those will have to wait til I return to LA.

Standing around in a room filled with some of the best professional photographers in the area is daunting enough, not knowing anyone is worse. I'm not the best at striking up conversations with people on a good day, but in addition to being strangers, this was my direct competition.

However fate smiled on me today and I was fortunate enough to actually know someone in the room, a high school friend and amazing photographer, Mitch Tobias (you should really check out his site).

We went out for a bite after the show, and I persuaded him to pose for my Message In a Bottle series:

Tomorrow I am getting my portfolio reviewed by Antonin Kratochvil and Radek Skrivane. I am really looking forward to hearing what they have to say. More maƱana.
