Currently Julie has two constants in her life, her dog and her car, so I knew those had to be in the shot. Once she had come up with her Message, "Don't Compromise & Speak up!! (in love & life & business!!)", I had her sit in the driver's seat and took this image.
I really adore how this shot turned out, I think it will be fine printed 11x14 or larger, and should be fine in the book as well, but at screen resolution, the message doesn't read very well, so I'm using the following shot on my website instead.
It's almost as strong as the car shot, but perhaps has more underlying narrative to the Message, if you read into it, there's more there. It's a tough choice, I like both equally.
In addition to the B&Ws, I've been making a duplicate set of color images, just as an alternative, and until now I haven't really shown them. Here's one from yesterday's shoot; I really think it's stronger than the same B&W.
And here's the whole lot as thumbnails. Seeing them this way gives me a new perspective on the series, I am inclined to include more color images in the book rather than have it all B&W as I originally intended. Judge for yourself:
